GIZ delegation visits Nyamagabe

The delegation was led by GIZ Director General Africa Department, Sabine Müller and GIZ Director Central Africa Division, Angelika Friedrich as well as other GIZ Rwanda Staff.

With Deputy Executive Director of Never Again Rwanda, Eric Mahoro and District officials, the delegation was briefed on Citizen Participation and Accountability in Rwanda specifically the 'role of local governance and CSOs'.

They had deep discussions which were centered around citizen participation in different programmes (planning and implementation processes) and that of private sector. They also discussed on local matters relating to climate change and the role of District in addressing them.

Accompanied by Nyamagabe District Mayor, Niyomwungeri Hildebrand, officials visited

a site at Kigeme Refugee Camp where a modern market is soon to be constructed for refugees and host community.

Activities to demolish old structures are ongoing to pave way for construction works which are set to start next month. The two-storey complex will be funded by GIZ, UNHCR and Nyamagabe District.

 The delegation also visited a women-handicraft cooperative in Kigeme Refugee Camp that is supported by GIZ. They commended how the cooperative empowers women financially as well as to the betterment of their families.
